Kiwi Kraze

The New Ice Cream Season Begins- 1st Stop: Kiwi Kraze

It is time again for the Best Ice Cream Challenge.  Last year the winner was Moo Moo's (in Strathroy).  Who will win this year?  We will have to wait and see.

To launch the new ice cream season (and in association with One Day) we visit Kiwi Kraze.  We have a number of guest judges on this visit- including Leanne, Hayley and Layton. Once again we go to Kiwi Kraze on Tuesday for their 2 for 1 special.

Comments:

  • It was too crowded because of the 2 for 1 deal
  • The Air Conditioning was also too cold for a number of our judges
  • The cost remains high- without the 2 for 1 deal our average cost would have been $7 each
  • They need to work hard to lower the price and provide customers with a better value; perhaps offering certain toppings free (hot fudge, whip cream basic sprinkles etc..) that the customer can put on after paying.
  • They should build a patio, so people can enjoy their frozen yogurt outside

The Score:

Kiwi Kraze is awarded a rating of 84.9% or

4 scoops out of 5

Back to Moo Moo's

We return to Moo Moo's in Strathroy for our ice cream blog.  Last year it scored 3rd in The Best Ice Cream Challenge.  How will it do this year- we will soon find out!  It is also important to note during this outing the judges were identified from the blog.  However, we assure you that our comments will be unbiased.

Comments:

  • shop was very clean
  • lovely patio
  • cashier was very friendly; owner was very friendly and identified the judges from the blog
  • cashier offered samples to the judges of Sweet and Salty Pretzel  (without the judges asking)
  • Maple Walnut Pecan had lots of whole pecans
  • Sweet and Salty Pretzel was a unique and new flavour

The Score:

The Final Verdict:

Moo Moo's once again gets 4 ice cream scoops out of 5, with high marks given for customer service and ambience.

Does Shaw's Taste Different?

Shaw's slogan is "Taste the Difference"- we are putting this to the test for our Ice Cream Challenge.  The judges are already to rate Shaw's, so lets get to their comments.

Comments:

  • Customer service- very slow service; only three cashiers- which wasn't enough for the crowd; apox wait time 15 mins.
  • Inside has photos and a old fashioned counter that is reminiscent of the old fashioned ice cream bar
  • There were flies buzzing around the shop compromising the cleanliness
  • Outside deck was nice
  • Poor washrooms
  • Not enough room for people to line up
  • Excellent selection of ice cream flavors
  • Chocolate Brownie flavor didn't have enough brownies

The Score:

Final Verdict:

Although the judges give Shaw's a high rating in the taste department, it did fall short in areas of ambience and value.  Therefore Shaw gets a rating of

73.9% or 3 scoops out of 5

Yo Yo for YoYos

It is a new season for the Best Ice Cream Challenge.   Since last year’s winner was Kiwi Kraze, we thought we’d start off the blog by rating another frozen yogurt establishment- Yo Yos.  The store is on trendy Richmond, so will we get a trendy product with a trendy price?   Here’s our opinion.

Comments:
·    Customer Service was poor; service clerks didn't welcome customers or explain how to get the yogurt
·    There was not enough choice in frozen yogurt flavors; both chocolate and vanilla flavours had very little taste
·    The appearance of fruit (bananas and strawberries) didn't look as appealing as fruit at Kiwi Kraze, and the choices were limited
·    Excellent choice of candy toppings (including Crispy Crunch, Skor, Smarties, gummy worms etc…)
·    Not as many designer sauces as Kiwi Kraze
·    Very Expensive

Will we go Kraze for Kiwi?

Today we experience the taste of frozen yogurt courtesy of Kiwi Kraze. The judges for this event include the regular judges, and guest judges Susannah and Grace.  We want to thank Susannah for bringing 2 for 1 coupons.

Kiwi Kraze is self serve frozen yogurt.  Customers can select from  over ten flavors, including: California Tart, Caramel Fudge Eclair, Peachy Peach, and Peanut butter.  All of the judges today selected at least two flavors.  Customers can get any size, which the judges seemed to like.  After the flavors are selected, customers can choose toppings.  There are fresh fruits (raspberries, blackberries, blueberries, strawberries, kiwi, mango, Mars Bar, Marshmallows, chocolate chips, almonds and other nuts, gummy worms, M&Ms and so much more. There are also over ten sauces including White Chocolate, Cinnamon, Raspberry and Hot fudge.  The yogurt and toppings cost 49 cents an ounce.

Comments:

- Judges loved the product; each tried a couple of flavours with several different toppings and sauces
- Customer service was excellent; reps explained how to use the machines; even informed us of the average price ($10) if cup is filled to the top
-Location had a modern look; trendy colours and sleek furniture; lots of windows that looked on to the parking lot; shrubbery/flowers would have been nice
-Doors did not have a wheelchair button; large wheelchair parking spot
-Washroom was clean but had paint splatter on the floor; kind of plain when compared to the rest of the store
-Air conditioning was on too high; one judge commented about being too cold
-Most believed the cost was reasonable; average cost with toppings was $6.50; coupons were used so we got 2 for 1
